Buea, May 1, 2025 - His Lordship Bishop Michael Miabesue Bibi of the Buea Diocese has congratulated and appreciated workers in the diocese for their contributions to building the kingdom of God. In his Labour Day message, Bishop Bibi emphasized the dignity of work and encouraged workers to view their labor as a means of creatively transforming God's creation into resources that grant comfort and better living to humanity.
According to Bishop Bibi, work is not a curse, but a way to elevate the cultural and moral level of society. He cited Pope John Paul II's encyclical "Laborens exercens" (1981), which reminds us that through work, we earn our daily bread and contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and the well-being of society.
However, His Lordship Bishop Bibi also condemned activities that undermine human dignity, such as scamming, robbery, and drug trafficking. He urged workers to uphold the spirituality of human work in the light of Christ, viewing their labor not just in terms of earthly progress but also in the development of the Kingdom of God.
"Wishing you all a wonderful celebration of the Labour Day 2025," Bishop Bibi said, "may your work be a reflection of the risen Christ's spirit."
Bishop Bibi's message serves as a reminder of the importance of dignity of work and the need for workers to uphold moral values in their labor.
