The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon has found itself embroiled in controversy following an incident involving The Very Right Fonki Samuel Forba, a former Moderator of the church. The controversy erupted during a high-profile meeting for the reconstruction of the North West and South West Regions, chaired by Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute in Buea on May 30, 2025.

The issue at the center of the controversy is whether Forba wore a pectoral cross, a symbol reserved for the sitting Moderator, Miki Hans Abia. According to Rev. Numfor Godwin, PCC Webmaster and Presbyterial Secretary for Tubah/Boyo Presbytery, the rules governing the wear of the pectoral cross are clear.

"Any other cross worn by any former Moderator is not considered a pectoral cross looking at the present status of the individual," Rev. Numfor Godwin emphasized.

He clarified that former Moderators are authorized to wear crosses, but not the pectoral cross. "What the former Moderator was wearing yesterday was not the pectoral cross," Rev. Numfor Godwin stated. "How do you hand something officially and still have it? It is not possible."

The PCC Webmaster explained that a pectoral cross is specifically associated with the office of the Moderator. "A pectoral cross is called pectoral cross when it is worn by the Moderator of the PCC," he said.
