One Person Swept Away by Overwhelming Floodwaters at City Chemist, Bamenda

The Two Individuals Being Swept by Water Current at City Chemist.

A tragic incident unfolded this afternoon at the City Chemist Roundabout in Bamenda, where two young men attempting to cross the flooded area were swept into the raging stream that runs under the bridge near Vatican Express.

Witnesses say the pair tried to cross by balancing on the large water pipe that connects both banks of the stream after the bridge was rendered impassable by heavy flooding since yesterday.

One of the victims, a local shoe mender, managed to cling to the wall of a nearby building before being pulled to safety by bystanders. The second young man, however, was overpowered by the strong currents and carried away.

“We heard screams and rushed to the scene,” recounted an eyewitness. “We were able to save one, but the water was too strong and carried the other away before we could do anything.”

Emergency responders and local residents are continuing their search along the banks of the stream in hopes of recovering the missing man.
