With just a day to the October 12 presidential polls, the esplanade of the Senior Divisional Officer’s office in Bamenda I, was transformed into a sea of CPDM colours, as militants and sympathisers turned out in their numbers for a mega rally led by Dr. Taniform Peter, CPDM Section President for Mezam IA and head of the communal campaign team.

The rally, held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, was marked by enthusiasm, unity, and renewed commitment to deliver a resounding victory for President Paul Biya.

One of the key highlights was the public defection of three long-time female militants from the Social Democratic Front (SDF), Esther Mambi, Ateh Florence and Ernestine Shimbum who officially joined the CPDM, describing the ruling party as “the party that has brought real hope and tangible progress” to the people of Bamenda I.

Ma Esther Mambi, one of the defectors, stepped onto the stage holding her old SDF materials, pictures, certificates, and testimonials from as far back as 1990. Speaking in both pidgin and the vernacular, she said:

“We have seen with our eyes what development looks like. The CPDM is the party that builds, not the one that only talks. Come October 12, we are voting for President Paul Biya for peace, for our children’s future, and for progress.”

Dr. Taniform Peter, Addressing the Population.

In his keynote address, Dr. Taniform Peter said the people of Bamenda I owe it to themselves and to the nation to vote massively for continuity and stability under President Biya’s leadership.

“Our candidate has touched every sector from infrastructure to health, education, and social welfare. The liquefied gas plant, the modern municipal stadium at Atougoulah, ongoing road tarring projects, the new customs head office, and the rice value chain headquarters are all proofs that this government delivers,” Dr. Taniform declared to resounding applause.

He called on voters to turn out early on election day “7 a.m. sharp” and ensure that their votes count by choosing the white ballot bearing President Biya’s picture.
Mbigha Felix Njah, Mayor of Bamenda I Council.
