North West Governor, Visiting Some Exhibition Stands.
The Governor of the North-West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, on Friday officially launched the 2025 edition of the North-West Regional Agro-Pastoral Show and Trade Fair in Bamenda. The North West regional chief executive used the occasion to issue a strong call for the revival and repositioning of agriculture as the backbone of the regional economy.
Presiding over the ceremony, Governor Lele described the annual agro-pastoral show as a “yearly jamboree” that brings together farmers, producers, development partners and policy actors to exchange ideas, create business links and boost food supply, particularly ahead of end-of-year festivities. He paid glowing tribute to farmers who travelled “from far and near” despite prevailing challenges, praising their resilience and commitment to food production in the region.

The Governor also acknowledged the welcoming remarks of the Mayor of Bamenda City Council, Paul Achobong Tembeng, and the concerns raised by the President of the Professional Producers Organization (PLANOPAC). He assured farmers that many of the difficulties outlined were already being addressed, while others would be escalated to competent authorities.
Reclaiming the Region’s Agricultural Leadership
Reflecting on the past, Governor Lele noted that the North-West Region was once among Cameroon’s most food-secure regions, a status that has declined in recent years due to insecurity and socio-economic disruptions. He challenged stakeholders to reposition the region not only as a food basket, but also as a leader in organic farming and import substitution.

He emphasized government efforts aligned with the National Development Strategy 2020–2030, notably the Integrated Agro-Pastoral and Fisheries Import Substitution Plan (PIISAH), which aims to cut food imports while boosting local production. In this light, he highlighted renewed investments to strengthen the productive capacities of UNVDA Ndop and MIDENO, urging managers to use funds judiciously to help make “North-West agriculture great again”.
Development Projects and Food Security
Governor Lele commended the impact of the PULCCA project, implemented through MIDENO, CDENO and the World Food Programme, for significantly boosting agriculture and livestock development since 2023. With the project’s first phase ending in 2025, he appealed to stakeholders to work toward a second phase so rural communities can continue to benefit.
He equally underscored the importance of the Rice Value Chain Development Project (RVCDP), which covers the North-West, West and Far North Regions, calling on rice farmers and stakeholders to fully exploit opportunities offered to improve production, processing and marketing.
