Ahead of Farming Season: Mezam 1C Section President Boosts Nkwen Women Farmers with Improved Maize Seeds
Women farmers in the Ntenfenki and Mbelem quarters of Nkwen have received a timely boost to their agricultural activities following the distribution of improved maize seeds by Che Ndaka Nicolas, CPDM Section President for Mezam 1C Nkwen.
The initiative, carried out on Thursday, March 19, 2026, marks the beginning of the planting season and aims to enhance food production in communities where farming remains a primary source of livelihood.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Che Ndaka Nicola, accompanied by his WCPDM Section President, Nwana Mercy, emphasized the importance of equipping women, whom he described as the backbone of rural economies, with the tools needed to improve yields and sustain their families.
The CPDM Mezam 1C Section President urged recipients to make effective use of the improved seeds to increase production and enhance household incomes. “We must support our mothers, who continue to feed our communities despite numerous challenges. With these improved seeds, we expect better harvests and stronger households,” he said.
The gesture was met with appreciation from local women, many of whom noted that access to quality seeds has been a persistent challenge, particularly after last season’s harvests were exhausted.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries in Mbelem, Rose Tangie, president of the Nkeblesoh Group, described the intervention as both rare and impactful. She highlighted the potential of the improved seeds to significantly increase farm output while also appealing for complementary support such as fertilizers to maximize yields.
Another farmer, Regina Frinwe, underscored the urgency of the assistance, explaining that many households had depleted their seed reserves and were at risk of missing the planting season.
The initiative from the Mezam 1C CPDM boss also received support from Nwana Mercy, the Mezam 1C WCPDM president, who encouraged women to embrace large-scale farming as a pathway to food security and economic empowerment. She further acknowledged the contribution of partners, including MIDENO, in making improved agricultural inputs accessible.
As part of follow-up measures, Che Ndaka Nicolas called for a proper inventory of beneficiaries to ensure equitable distribution of fertilizers in the coming weeks. The seed distribution, which takes place ahead of upcoming municipal and parliamentary activities, reflects ongoing efforts to support grassroots communities while reinforcing agricultural resilience in the region.
For many women in Nkwen, the intervention signals renewed hope not only for a productive farming season but also for improved livelihoods in the months ahead.
