The Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) Mezam II Section in Santa convened a joint section conference on Saturday at the Women Empowerment Centre, drawing party militants, officials, and new entrants in a show of unity, gratitude, and political consolidation.
Held under the theme “Mezam II Santa Appreciates Militants and Consolidates Achievement,” the conference served as both a thanksgiving event and a strategic gathering ahead of looming legislative and municipal elections.
Gratitude for Electoral Support
Speaking at the event, Section President Mbah Shupong Michael, who also serves as Director of CDENO, praised militants for their strong performance during the October 12, 2025, presidential election. “We came here to thank our militants for the great job they did,” he said, noting that Santa delivered significant support for the CPDM candidate. He urged members to maintain the same spirit of commitment and sacrifice as the party prepares for future electoral challenges.
Welcoming New Members from Opposition Parties
A notable highlight of the conference was the formal reception of former militants from opposition parties, including the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP) and the Social Democratic Front. Party officials described the defections as a sign of growing confidence in the CPDM’s development agenda.
“It is always good when people see what benefits them in terms of development and decide to follow that path,” Mbah Shupong Michael stated, emphasizing the party’s openness to new members.
Among the defectors, Ewane Randolphie Belle cited stagnation within his former party as a key reason for switching allegiance. “We discovered that the party was not moving forward as expected,” he said, adding that he joined the CPDM with a group of youths in search of “true and visible development.”
Similarly, Bacha Elias pointed to limited development outcomes in his locality as motivation for his move. “We want to be part of a system that can deliver development and opportunities,” he noted.
Emphasis on Party Discipline
Delivering a key address, Fru Jonathan, CPDM Charge de Mission and CPDM Mezam II Santa technical adviser stressed the importance of discipline as the backbone of the party’s strength. “Without discipline, no organization can succeed,” he said, referencing the vision of CPDM National Chairman Paul Biya, as articulated in his political philosophy of Communal Liberalism.
He warned against actions that undermine party cohesion, noting that internal divisions previously weakened the section. “Today, we recognize only one group the CPDM and we are working together for its interest,” Fru Jonathan affirmed.
Mobilization and Financial Commitment
Also speaking at the conference, Ntum-Kwifon Che Linidolf Ndongnyam highlighted the importance of regular section meetings in strengthening party structures and preparing militants for upcoming elections. He underscored the role of financial contributions in sustaining party activities. “Every single franc matters,” he said, encouraging grassroots participation in funding party operations. “Contribution builds commitment.”
Looking Ahead
With the legislative and municipal elections on the horizon, CPDM leaders in Santa used the conference to reinforce unity, mobilize resources, and reaffirm their political strategy. As a key locality described as the “gateway to the North-West Region,” Santa is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming political contests.
Party officials expressed confidence that the renewed cohesion and growing membership base will translate into continued electoral success. The conference ended on a note of optimism, with calls for sustained engagement, discipline, and collective effort in advancing the CPDM’s development agenda in Mezam II and beyond.
