The Fundong Council has unveiled its financial roadmap for 2026, pairing a modest budget increase with a reaffirmed commitment to development, accountability, and community-driven governance. The announcement comes alongside a positive assessment of the council’s 2025 financial and administrative performance, presented during a key session held at the council chambers on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Denis Awoh Ndang, Mayor of Fundong Council.

Mayor Denis Awoh Ndang detailed a proposed 2026 budget of 902,688,500 FCFA, reflecting a slight rise from the previous year. Though incremental, the increase signals continuity in a period still shaped by economic constraints and gradual recovery from socio-political tensions. According to him, the council remains focused on consolidating gains through a structured, program-based budgeting approach that aims to improve planning and long-term execution of projects.

The mayor’s address also highlighted encouraging results from the 2025 financial year. The council recorded a budget execution rate exceeding 93 percent, alongside a surplus of more than 9 million FCFA. This performance, officials say, underscores improved financial management and adherence to decentralized governance principles promoted at the national level. The figures were presented during the Administrative Management and Stores Account session, where councillors reviewed and validated the council’s financial records.

Development projects implemented throughout 2025 formed a central part of the council’s achievements. Across the municipality, residents benefited from expanded access to electricity, improved water supply systems, and the construction of educational infrastructure. Efforts to upgrade roads and build social facilities such as health centers and community halls also contributed to enhancing local living standards.

These projects reflect the council’s ongoing commitment to balanced development across sectors. Despite these advances, the mayor acknowledged that some projects remain unfinished or in progress, pointing to the challenges of resource allocation and implementation delays. Nevertheless, the council has maintained a forward-looking stance, with plans to continue ongoing works while initiating new projects under the 2026 budget.

Environmental sanitation has emerged as a key priority in the new fiscal year. With increased attention to waste management, the council aims to improve cleanliness across the municipality and strengthen its position in national sanitation rankings. This focus forms part of a broader effort to enhance urban management and promote a healthier environment for residents.

Community involvement continues to be a defining feature of Fundong’s governance approach. Village development committees have played an active role in budget discussions and project oversight, reinforcing collaboration between local authorities and grassroots stakeholders. This participatory model, officials say, has contributed to greater transparency and stronger project ownership within communities.

In his remarks, Mayor Ndang emphasized that peace remains a critical condition for sustainable development. He called on residents to support local authorities by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities, while commending the role of defense and security forces in maintaining stability. His message underscored the shared responsibility between citizens and institutions in safeguarding progress.
Menyong Gilbert Sunday, Boyo SDO Addressing Councillors.

The Senior Divisional Officer for Boyo, Menyong Gilbert Sunday, during the session, praised councillors for their discipline in reviewing accounts and encouraging continued engagement with local communities. He urged them to intensify awareness efforts ahead of upcoming national exercises and to maintain their commitment to effective governance.

As Fundong Council moves into 2026, the administration is banking on a combination of financial prudence, community participation, and sustained peace to drive development forward. While challenges remain, the council’s recent track record suggests a steady trajectory, with local authorities positioning themselves to build on current gains and deliver improved services to the population.
