South West: Dr. Hon. Ekandim Agbor Meg Calls for Urgent Action After PIB Assessment

Dr. Hon. Ekandim Agbor Meg, Vice President, South West Follow-Up Committee, PIB.

Dr. Hon. Ekandim Agbor Meg has raised concern over the performance of the South West Region following the national assessment of Cameroon’s 2025 Public Investment Budget (PIB), held at the Amphitheatre 300 at the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development (MINEPAT) in Yaoundé.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, brought together members of parliament, mayors, civil society organizations, and government officials to review the execution of public investment projects across the country’s ten regions. The session was chaired by Hon. Rosette Moutymbo Ayayix.

According to the assessment, overall national performance was below expectations. The Adamawa Region recorded the highest implementation rate at 86 percent, while the South West Region ranked last with 71 percent. Within the South West Region, Ndian Division emerged as the best-performing area with 85 percent project execution, while Manyu Division recorded the lowest rate at 55 percent.

Reacting to the results, Dr. Hon. Ekandim Agbor Meg, who is vice president of the Follow-Up Committee for Public Investment Budgets in the South West Region and CEO of CHAMEG Cameroon, expressed disappointment over the region’s position.
She identified several challenges affecting project implementation in the region, including delays in contract procedures, insufficient project preparation, limited capacity among contractors, insecurity in some areas, and the late payment of contractors’ bills, which she described as one of the topmost factors contributing to the poor execution rate.

Dr. Hon. Meg also pointed to weak collaboration among stakeholders as a major factor behind the poor performance. She criticized what he described as a lack of commitment from some local councils, noting that project implementation levels often remain very low even in the middle of the year. She further emphasized the need for greater involvement from local communities, urging citizens to take interest in development projects and monitor their execution.
