Renowned Cameroonian psychologist Dr. Azinwi Terence Niba is set to launch his highly anticipated book, From Zero to Hero: A Psychologist’s Journey of Grit and Resilience from Cameroon to Global Impact, in Bamenda this weekend. It marks a significant moment for conversations around mental health and personal transformation in the region.
The official launch will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Conference Hall of Hilltop Hotel in Upstation Bamenda, bringing together a diverse audience that includes mental health professionals, educators, students, community leaders, and members of the public.
Published by Amazon in the United States, the book chronicles Dr Azinwi’s journey from a challenging childhood in Fundong to becoming an internationally recognized mental health expert. Through deeply personal reflections, he explores themes of hardship, discipline, resilience, and purpose, offering readers both inspiration and practical insight.
Dr Azinwi’s early life was marked by the loss of parental figures and significant instability, experiences that shaped his determination to pursue education and personal growth. Over the years, he rebuilt his path through persistence and focus, eventually rising to global prominence in the field of mental health.
Today, he serves as a Regional Staff Counsellor with the United Nations Development Programme, based in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, where he provides psychological support services to personnel across multiple African countries. With more than 16 years of experience spanning academic, humanitarian, and development sectors, his work has had a broad and lasting impact.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Dr Azinwi Terence Niba emphasized the message at the heart of his book. He noted that personal beginnings do not define one’s future, stressing that discipline, resilience, and intentional choices can lead to meaningful transformation.
The launch event is expected to be both reflective and interactive. Attendees will participate in a book presentation, review session, official unveiling, and a live interaction with the author, followed by a book signing and sales session.
Organizers say the event aims to spark vital conversations around mental health and encourage young people, in particular, to stay focused and resilient despite life’s challenges. Copies of From Zero to Hero will be available for purchase at the venue.
