Dr. David Makongo Frames Trump’s China Visit as Symbol of Strategic Leadership

International business lawyer and diehard humanitarian Dr. David Makongo has praised former US President Donald Trump for what he described as a “triumphant” and courageous approach to diplomacy with China, arguing that dialogue between major powers remains essential at a time of mounting global tensions.

In a strongly worded commentary titled “President Trump’s Triumphant Visit to China: An Everlasting Lesson," Dr. Makongo said global fears surrounding conflict in Ukraine, tensions involving Iran, economic uncertainty, and geopolitical rivalry have increased the need for direct engagement between world powers rather than confrontation.

“At a time when the world fears war, division, economic collapse, and dangerous escalation around Iran, Ukraine, and global power struggles, President Donald Trump flew directly into China—America's greatest rival, carrying not only America’s message but also the hopes of millions across the world,” he wrote.

Dr. Makongo described the move as an example of "courage," "confidence," and "leadership," adding that strong leaders should engage rivals directly in pursuit of peace and stability. “Strong leaders do not hide from rivals. They confront realities face-to-face to protect peace, stability, markets, and the future of generations to come,” he said.

The commentary places particular emphasis on the wider global consequences of relations between Washington and Beijing. According to Dr. Makongo, strategic dialogue between the United States and China could help stabilize international markets and reduce the risk of further conflict. “If America and China choose strategic dialogue over destruction, the entire world benefits from Washington to Beijing, from Europe to Africa,” he stated.

Dr. Makongo also highlighted the impact that tensions between major powers can have on developing economies, especially in Africa. He argued that periods of geopolitical instability often hit weaker economies first, while sustained peace can encourage trade, industrial growth, and foreign investment.

“Africa especially needs peace between major powers. Because when giants fight, weaker economies bleed first. But when stability prevails, trade grows, industries rise, investments flow, and hope returns,” he wrote.

The remarks come amid continuing international debate over the future of US-China relations and concerns about the risk of wider global instability. Analysts have increasingly warned that diplomatic breakdowns between major powers could have far-reaching economic and security consequences worldwide.

Concluding his statement, Dr. Makongo called for “bold diplomacy” and “disciplined leadership," arguing that history ultimately remembers leaders who choose negotiation over conflict.

“The world does not need another uncontrollable war,” he said. “The world needs bold diplomacy, disciplined leadership, and the courage to sit across the table before nations are forced onto battlefields.”

He ended the message with a direct commendation to the former US president, writing: “History will always remember leaders who chose dialogue when the world expected disaster. Brilliant and triumphant, Mr. President. Thank you.”
