Fear Grows Over Two Missing Schoolgirls at Mbatu Dam in Bamenda

                Two Missing Schoolgirls.

The army rescue unit search team headed by senior warrant officer Taku Paul and residents are continuing efforts to locate two schoolgirls who are feared to have drowned in Mbatu Dam in the Bamenda II Subdivision.

The girls, identified by residents as Aneh Kiara and Shemitah Princess, reportedly disappeared after entering the water on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

A young witness who said he accompanied the girls to the dam told community members that the pair had gone swimming before they suddenly vanished beneath the water.

Residents later discovered personal belongings, including clothes and other items believed to belong to the girls, near the banks of the dam.

The incident quickly drew large crowds to the area, with relatives, neighbours and rescue volunteers gathering at the scene as search operations intensified into the evening.

By Sunday morning, the bodies had not been recovered, according to people involved in the search.

Community members said both girls were students, and news of their disappearance has sent shockwaves across the neighbourhood.
