The North West Regional Assembly has provisionally received the newly completed Mutan Market in Bamenda III, marking a major milestone in its plans to transform the North West Region into a regional trade and logistics hub.
The market, constructed by Dreamland Connect at the Industrial Zone in Nkwen, was officially handed over to the Regional Assembly during a ceremony on Friday, July 31, 2026. The project was financed through the PROLOG program and executed under the authority of the President of the North West Regional Assembly.
Speaking during the handover, Dreamland Connect Chief Executive Officer, Edison Fru Ndi, said the project was awarded through a competitive national tender and completed despite significant technical and administrative challenges.
He said the company maintained construction standards throughout the project, adding that it installed a 30 KVA solar power system instead of the contracted 25 KVA capacity and completed additional works, including handrails on the staircase and a flagpole, at no extra cost to quality.
Front View of the Newly Constructed Mutan Market.The Mutan Market project, valued at 410 million FCFA, comprises a modern market building, 54 market sheds, a borehole with a 10,000-cubic-metre water storage tank, solar-powered electricity, internal and external sanitation facilities, and other supporting infrastructure.
Executive President of the North West Regional Assembly, Prof. Fru Angwafo, described the provisional reception as the beginning of a broader economic transformation for the region. He said the market would form part of a future regional economic hub that will include a customs clearance center, conference facilities, and a proposed inland dry port aimed at facilitating trade with Nigeria and beyond.
Prof. Angwafo said the wider development could generate at least 5,000 jobs while strengthening agricultural value chains, processing industries, and export opportunities. He urged residents to take ownership of the project, stressing that community participation would be essential to its long-term success.
He also highlighted the Assembly's Peace and Development Initiative, describing it as a non-partisan program designed to promote social cohesion, create employment opportunities, and encourage community participation regardless of educational background or political affiliation.
Bamenda III Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe welcomed the project, saying it would revitalize the area's industrial zone and reduce the burden on businesses that currently travel to Douala for customs clearance. He praised the Regional Assembly's vision and commended Dreamland Connect as an example of local expertise delivering major public infrastructure, insisting that Dreamland Connect is a perfect solution to local problems.
His Royal Highness Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen pledged the community's support in safeguarding the facility and maintaining peace around the site. He said the market, together with the planned dry port and other investments, would create employment, stimulate commerce, and improve livelihoods across the North West Region.
