Fundong Council in Boyo Division in the North West Region has secured funding to implement seven development projects after signing a financing agreement under the Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project (PROLOG).
The agreement was signed alongside six other councils in the North West Region during a ceremony held at the PROLOG Regional Office in Bamenda on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The projects, valued at 205.86 million FCFA, were selected through community consultations and will focus on improving access to basic services and supporting local economic recovery.
Denis Awoh Ndang, Mayor of Fundong Council, said the council has prioritized three potable water schemes to extend piped water to more communities, describing access to clean water as a fundamental need.
He said another project will involve the construction of part of the Fundong market to stimulate commercial activity and increase council revenue, which has declined during the ongoing socio-political crisis.
The council also plans to install solar-powered streetlights in parts of the municipality to improve public safety and provide a reliable source of energy for small businesses affected by frequent electricity outages.
According to the mayor, the projects reflect the priorities identified by residents and demonstrate the impact of decentralization in giving communities a greater role in local development.
PROLOG North West Regional Coordinator Dr. Yessi Anthony Bunguh said Fundong is one of seven councils benefiting from the third phase of the Community Investment Support Grant. The other beneficiary councils are Belo, Elak Oku, Jakiri, Ndop, Njikwa, and Tubah.
Dr. Bunguh said the projects were approved only after meeting climate resilience and environmental and social safeguards required under the program.
He added that although insecurity continues to limit field supervision in some areas, PROLOG monitors implementation through reports, photographs, videos, and regular feedback from beneficiary communities.
The program also requires residents to participate in identifying and prioritizing projects through village assemblies before councils submit them for funding.
According to PROLOG, the seven beneficiary councils qualified for the grants after demonstrating strong governance and financial management under the program's earlier Performance-Based Grant scheme.
The initiative is designed to strengthen decentralization by supporting community-led projects that improve public services and promote sustainable local development.
