Tubah Council in Mezam Division in the North West Region has been granted 267.3 million FCFA under the Program for Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project (PROLOG) to finance seven development projects identified by local communities.
The funding agreement was signed on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, during a ceremony at the North West Regional Office, where seven councils received grants under PROLOG's Community Investment Support Grant.
Speaking after the signing, Tubah Council Mayor Tanjong Martin Meshongong said the projects reflect the priorities expressed by residents through village consultations, in line with the principles of decentralisation.
He explained that the council did not determine the projects on its own but endorsed proposals submitted by communities after a participatory planning process.
"The people identified the projects they considered most important. The council's responsibility is to ensure they are implemented successfully," the mayor said.
Among the planned investments are the construction of bridges and culverts to improve access to communities, as well as the installation of additional solar-powered streetlights to enhance public safety.
Mayor Tanjong Martin said the council has already installed around 200 solar streetlights in previous years, adding that the new project will expand coverage to more communities.
He also urged residents to protect public infrastructure, noting that community ownership is essential to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the projects.
The North West Regional Coordinator of PROLOG, Dr. Yessi Anthony Bunguh, said Tubah Council's allocation amounts to FCFA 267,328,839, making it one of seven councils selected under the program's latest funding phase.
The other beneficiary councils are Belo, Elak Oku, Fundong, Jakiri, Ndop, and Njikwa.
Dr. Bunguh said every project financed by PROLOG must first undergo climate resilience and environmental and social assessments before a financing agreement is approved.
He added that although security challenges continue to affect parts of the region, project implementation will be closely monitored through reports, photographs, videos, and feedback from beneficiary communities.
According to him, the program places communities at the centre of local development by allowing them to identify, prioritize, and monitor projects from conception to completion.
The councils benefiting from the latest grants were selected after successfully meeting governance and financial management standards under PROLOG's earlier Performance-Based Grant program.
PROLOG says the initiative is designed to strengthen decentralization by improving service delivery, promoting community participation, and supporting sustainable development in local councils.
