Senior lawyer and anti-corruption campaigner Barrister Akere Tebang Muna has publicly questioned the prolonged absence of President Paul Biya from Cameroon, saying the Presidency's limited communication has left many citizens uncertain and encouraged growing speculation.
In a statement, the former President of the Cameroon Bar Association, President of the NOW Movement, and former presidential hopeful noted that President Paul Biya has been out of the country since June 7, 2026.
While the Presidency has repeatedly insisted that the Head of State is neither hospitalized nor in poor health, Barrister Akere Muna said those assurances have not fully addressed the concerns of many Cameroonians.

He asked, "Should a nation have to guess where its president is?" arguing that it is difficult to understand why a sitting Head of State could remain away from public view for nearly two months without more direct and reassuring communication.
The anti-corruption campaigner added that, given the President's age, 93, illness would be understandable. What he finds harder to justify, however, is what he described as "the silence, the suspense, and the speculation imposed on nearly 30 million Cameroonians."
He concluded by saying that while the truth may sometimes be uncomfortable, transparency is ultimately in the nation's best interest and would help put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the President's prolonged absence.
