A man identified as Atouh Kenedy has been rescued by the Army Rescue Unit in Bamenda after an incident that raised concerns over his safety.
Kenedy, a native of Wum in Menchum Division, was found in a distressed state on Monday, August 3, 2026, in the Ntankah area of Mulang, Bamenda II Subdivision.

Senior Warrant Officer Taku Paul, the Chief of Center, walking on an alert from residents, rushed to the scene and discovered that the man was truly in a helpless condition. The timely intervention by the army rescue unit successfully brought him to safety after repeated efforts to calm and assist him.
The man at about 60 years, who lives in the Ngie quarter around the Rendezvous neighbourhood in Bamenda II, is a father of one child.

According to the chief of center, this was not the first time the distressed individual had expressed thoughts of ending his life. A similar incident was recorded days earlier at the Bamenda Food Market, where he deliberately went beneath a heavy-duty truck for it to run over him. The reasons behind his actions remain unclear.
Following the rescue, Taku Paul provided counselling and encouraged him to seek support, while urging the public to continue reporting cases involving people in distress.
The Army Rescue Unit thanked residents for alerting them promptly, describing the intervention as timely and crucial in preventing a tragedy.
After he was rescued and counselled, he was later taken to his uncle who resides in the same quarter with him. The uncle was advised to intensify the counselling that would prevent and guide his path in the days ahead.
