Dr. Emmanuel Bah Tokoh Joins CBUI’s Leadership Team

Dr. Emmanuel Bah Tokoh has been appointed the pioneer Administrative Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of the Cameroon Baptist University (CBUI), Mutengene, in the South West Region.

He was recently installed at the Nkwen Baptist Center in Bamenda, North West Region, alongside other newly appointed university administrative officials like Dr. Humphrey Monono as Registrar and Dr. Abeti Emmanuel as Director of Students Affairs. 

Rev. Dr. Teke John, Executive President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention and Board Chair of CBUI, presided over the installation.

Dr. Bah Tokoh brings an academic background in Applied Linguistics and conflict-sensitive communication to his new role.

He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Bamenda, where his doctoral thesis earned the highest distinction after being graded “Excellent.” Defended in December 2025 before a six-member panel chaired by Professor Tanda Vincent, the study examined 250 headlines published by major national newspapers.

His research explored how linguistic framing can shape public narratives and amplify socio-political and economic interests during the Anglophone crisis, the Boko Haram conflict, and disputes surrounding the 2018 presidential election.

The research builds on his 2021 Master’s thesis, which examined the linguistic drivers of hate speech. His findings identified political rivalry, economic inequality, and marginalization as factors that can contribute to conflict.

Dr. Bah Tokoh’s academic work focuses on applying linguistic research to real-world challenges, particularly conflict-sensitive reporting, ethical media advocacy, and promoting social cohesion.

His appointment as the pioneer Administrative Assistant to the Vice Chancellor places him at the heart of CBUI’s emerging administrative structure as the university continues to develop its institutional leadership.

The new role is expected to draw on his academic and administrative experience as he works with the Vice Chancellor and other university officials to support the institution’s operations.
