Dr. Julius Nyih, Vice President, Ambazonia Governing Council.Dr. Julius Nyih, Vice President of the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC), has announced the immediate revocation of the lockdown order previously imposed in the North West and South West Regions, calling for the unconditional return of children to school.
The decision followed an Executive Council meeting held on August 23, 2026, according to an official communiqué signed by the Office of the Vice President.
Dr. Nyih said the AGovC had reconsidered its earlier position after recognizing the hardship caused by a strategy that, in his words, was increasingly hurting the very communities it sought to protect.
The council acknowledged that years of conflict had cost lives, divided communities, and placed a heavy burden on families, while leaving children particularly affected by prolonged disruption to education.
Under the new decision, the lockdown call has been unanimously revoked.
Dr. Nyih called on parents and guardians across the North West and South West Regions to facilitate the immediate and unconditional return of children to school, stressing that education must remain a priority and cannot be sacrificed.
The AGovC also warned that no individual or group acting in the name of the Ambazonian cause should obstruct, intimidate, or otherwise prevent students from returning to school.
The move marks a significant shift in the council's position on school attendance, following years in which education has been repeatedly disrupted by conflict and competing lockdown orders.
Dr. Nyih said the future of the region's children must remain central to any political or social struggle, stressing that communities must take responsibility for shaping that future.
“Education remains non-negotiable,” the communiqué stated, urging communities to put the interests and future of children first.
The AGovC said the decision was reached unanimously and thanked parents, guardians, and communities for their cooperation.
