Hon. Dr. Nguh Nicolas Santos has been installed as President of the Atieghu Sub-Section of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Mezam 1C, Bamenda III.
He was installed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by Mezam 1C Section President Ndaka Nicolas during a CPDM strategy meeting at the North West Regional Assembly at Upstation in Bamenda.
Hon. Dr. Santos, a clinical psychologist and humanitarian, brings extensive professional and political experience to the position. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Buea, a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a doctorate in applied clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in California.
He said his professional career has included work with the US Department of Health, while his humanitarian activities have earned him recognition in the United States.
Hon. Dr. Nguh Nicolas Santos also has a long history within the CPDM. He began his involvement with the party’s youth wing in the 1990s at the University of Buea, where he served as vice-president of the Molyko Subsection. He later served as Assistant Treasurer of the Fako I Section in Limbe and remained involved in CPDM activities in North America.
Now back in Mezam, Santos says his immediate task is to help revive the party’s presence in Bamenda III, particularly in Nkwen, an area he describes as the “heartbeat” of Mezam 1C.
He believes the party needs candidates who are known for tangible community development and who can connect with voters beyond party politics.
Hon. Dr. Santos pointed to his own humanitarian activities in Nkwen and elsewhere, including helping children return to school, supporting internally displaced children with educational materials and tuition, facilitating access to water, promoting solar lighting, supporting road works, and assisting people with medical needs.
He also said he was among the principal contributors to the recent purchase of a vehicle for the Fon of Nkwen.
For Santos, such community engagement can help rebuild trust and strengthen the CPDM’s appeal in areas where the party has struggled electorally. He also called for fresh faces and new ideas within the party, arguing that the political landscape requires leaders who are open to change and willing to respond to the realities on the ground.
Mezam 1C Section President Ndaka Nicolas urged the new subsection leadership to get to work, particularly on voter registration ahead of the August 31 deadline.
The revamped Atieghu bureau also includes Ta Ntoh Achumukala Collins as Treasurer and Dr. Asongwe Cyprian as Adviser.
The installation came as CPDM officials in the North-West intensify preparations for the forthcoming municipal and parliamentary elections. Hon. Dr. Santos said the party’s goal in Mezam Division should be to improve on its previous performance and reclaim the Bamenda III council.
“We are going after it,” he said, expressing confidence that a stronger grassroots structure and credible candidates could help the CPDM make gains in Nkwen.
For the new Atieghu Subsection president, the immediate challenge is turning the renewed political energy into grassroots mobilization and electoral results.
