Bafut Subdivision is looking forward to a new wave of development following a meeting between its elites, development stakeholders and the Minister of Public Works, Nganou Djoumessi, in Yaoundé on Friday.
The meeting on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Minister's cabinet in Yaounde, provided an opportunity for the Bafut delegation to thank the Minister for the planned start of work on the Bamenda–Bafut–Wum section of the Ring Road while also presenting other urgent development needs in the subdivision.
Regional Councillor Gordon Anyele, who led the delegation, outlined the challenges facing Bafut, particularly the poor condition of roads, schools and other basic infrastructure. He also presented projects intended to improve these facilities and the living conditions of the population.
The Mayor of Bafut, Ngwakongoh Lawrence expressed appreciation for the Minister’s continued attention to the subdivision. National Majong President, Che Bianka Leslie, pledged the community’s support for the proposed projects and called for collective efforts to ensure their successful implementation.
Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi gave his backing to the projects presented and promised to personally monitor their progress. He further announced that he would visit Bafut in the coming months to launch some of the initiatives.
The meeting also featured a message from Fon Abumbi II. The Fon’s representative announced the Minister’s designation as a Senior Notable of Bafut, an honour the Minister received with appreciation.
The planned road works are expected to have a direct impact on Bafut’s economy by improving the movement of farm produce, connecting farmers to markets and creating more opportunities for local businesses and young people.
The meeting, according to the Bafut delegation has renewed expectations of better infrastructure, stronger economic activity and improved prospects for the subdivision as Cameroon advances towards its 2035 development goals.
