With the new school year approaching, CPDM Subsection President for Upper Bawock, Rudolf Wanji, has stepped up support for children in the community, distributing 32 cartons of didactic materials and school benches while calling on parents to ensure that no child stays out of school for lack of basic learning materials.
The donation was made on Sunday, August 30, 2026, during a one-day CPDM sensitization seminar that brought together militants from the Upper and Lower Bawock subsections in the Bali Central Subdivision of the North West Region.
The exercise combined preparations for the upcoming municipal and legislative elections with Wanji’s annual back-to-school support program, which he said has been running for several years.
The educational materials included exercise books ranging from smaller notebooks to books of up to 300 leaves, together with pens, pencils, rulers, and erasers. Some children also received school bags.
Wanji said the initiative is intended to encourage children to return to Bawock and resume their studies after years of disruption caused by the crisis in the region. He urged parents not to keep their children at home simply because they cannot afford school supplies.
The intervention also covered school furniture. Wanji said some benches had been destroyed and that providing learning materials without ensuring that pupils had somewhere to sit would not adequately address the challenges facing schools.
He promised to return after schools reopen with additional supplies, including chalk, buckets, and other basic materials required for the daily running of the institutions.
The education support came as CPDM militants gathered to prepare for the next municipal and legislative elections. The seminar was part of a wider sensitization campaign organized at national, regional, divisional, and subsection levels following a call by the Head of State and National Chairman of the CPDM, President Paul Biya, for militants to prepare for the polls.
At the Mezam III Section Bali level, militants held their seminar on August 28, before the two Bawock subsections organized theirs two days later under the coordination of Wanji, who also coordinates Upper and Lower Bawock.
Participants were briefed on the conditions prospective candidates must meet, the responsibilities of militants, appropriate conduct in a crisis-affected region, and the importance of grassroots mobilization ahead of the elections.
Wanji used the gathering to reiterate what he described as Bawock’s longstanding loyalty to the CPDM, saying the community remained committed to the party even at a time when the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) controlled a majority of councils in the North West.
“When we still had a majority of SDF Councils in the North West, Bawock was and stayed committed to the ideals of the New Deal and the CPDM,” he said, adding that the community could still be counted on for the party’s future electoral engagements.
The youth wing equally expressed its readiness to participate in the electoral process. Nubed Kimie Valery, YCPDM Subsection President for Lower Bawock, said young militants had received sensitization from the regional, divisional, and section levels and were prepared to contribute when the elections are convened.
“We, the youths, are ready. We have been properly trained from the regional to the divisional level and now the subsection level. I can assure our hierarchy that we are adequately prepared and ready to do our part whenever the elections are convened,” Valery said.
For Wanji, however, political mobilization must go alongside practical efforts to rebuild confidence in education within the community.
He said his continued investment in schools is also motivated by the academic performance of children from Bawock, particularly in the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels. He expressed the hope that improved support would encourage more children to enrol and remain in school while helping the community sustain its academic achievements.
