Dr. Omam Esther Calls for Action to Unlock Central Africa’s Potential

Dr. Omam Esther, the Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon (ROC), says Central Africa must move beyond discussions and turn its abundant resources, knowledge, and partnerships into concrete action that improves the lives of its people.

The peacebuilder and global peace ambassador made the call during the 4th Central Africa Think Tank Forum, organized by the Nkafu Foundation at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé.

Dr. Omam Esther said the region has enormous human and natural resources but warned that potential alone cannot create jobs, improve infrastructure, strengthen healthcare systems, or secure lasting peace.

She made the remarks after participating on September 9, 2026, in the Executive and Strategic Leadership Programme on “Building Partnerships and Collaboration Across Sectors.”

According to the peacebuilder, mediator, and development practitioner, Central Africa’s challenges cannot be solved by governments, businesses, civil society, or other institutions working separately. She stressed the need for stronger partnerships based on trust, shared responsibility, and accountable institutions.

On September 10, 2026, she joined the forum’s opening plenary, held under the theme “From Potential to Prosperity: Advancing Central Africa’s Development Through Strategic Collaboration.”

Dr. Omam Esther said development efforts must remain focused on people and produce measurable results in communities. She also identified peace, inclusion, accountable leadership, women’s participation, and cooperation across borders and sectors as key elements for sustainable development in the region.

"Dialogue," she argued, should lead to action rather than remain an end in itself.

Dr. Omam welcomed the forum as an opportunity for researchers, policymakers, civil society organizations, development partners, and private-sector actors to share ideas and work towards practical solutions for Central Africa.

Her message was clear that the region must move from potential to action if it is to achieve lasting prosperity.
