Renowned CPDM Santa financier and Group Merdolf CEO Ntum-Kwifon Che Linidolf Ndongnyam has described education as a key foundation for peace and development in Santa Subdivision.
Interviewed during the 2026 Mighty Santa Caucus Excellence Awards on September 12, 2026, at the Women’s Empowerment and Family Centre in Santa, Che Linidolf Ndongnyam said the initiative was created to motivate students and encourage families to keep their children in school despite the socio-economic difficulties affecting the area.
He described the awards as an investment in the community’s future, saying the recognition of outstanding students was intended to encourage others to work harder.
According to him, the number of beneficiaries has increased with each edition, reflecting growing interest in academic achievement. He expressed hope that participation could triple by the 2027/2028 academic year.
The ceremony brought together administrative authorities, traditional and religious leaders, parents, educators, elites, and students.
Dr. Chi: “Choose the pen, not the gun."
President of the Mighty Santa Caucus, Dr. Chi Asafor Cornelius, who is also Secretary General of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM), used the occasion to urge Santa youths to make education central to their future.
He said academic excellence can help rebuild communities affected by conflict and called on students to reject violence, intolerance, and destruction.
Dr. Chi Asafor urged young people to “drop our guns and pick back our pens,” stressing that education, discipline, perseverance, and continuous learning are essential to personal and community development.
The event also highlighted concerns over the impact of the crisis on education, with Dr. Chi citing figures from the 2026 GCE Advanced Level results to illustrate the difficulties facing predominantly Anglophone schools.
Students hail the initiative
Awardees said the recognition has strengthened their determination to pursue academic excellence.
Tifuh Memeh, an advanced-level technical student of GBTHS Bamenda who scored 27 points, thanked the Santa Caucus for celebrating students’ achievements.
She said the award reinforced the importance of hard work, dedication, discipline, and consistency, while acknowledging the role of parents, teachers, and guardians in helping students succeed.
Another awardee, Teneng Glen Junior, an Advanced Level General student of GBTHS Bamenda who scored 25 points, said such recognition motivates young people to work harder and encourages other students to pursue academic excellence.
More than 150 students recognized
The 2026 awards covered students from PhD, master's, and bachelor's levels, as well as GCE Advanced and Ordinary levels.
The organizers listed 2 PhD students, 11 master's students, 15 bachelor's graduates, 11 GCE Advanced Level Technical students, 32 GCE Advanced Level General students, 23 GCE Ordinary Level Technical students, and 73 GCE Ordinary Level General students among the beneficiaries.
The awards included financial assistance, scholarships, back-to-school didactic materials, and a support package from the NCPBM.
For Ntum-Kwifon, Che Linidolf, the objective of this academic excellence award is to encourage more young people to stay in school, excel, and contribute to the future of Santa.
