Simon Emile Mooh, Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam Division, has condemned the shooting of two government officials in separate attacks in Bamenda III Subdivision on September 25, 2026.
In a press release issued Tuesday, September 29, four days after the incidents, Mooh confirmed that Godwin Tafoan Benyalla, Principal of Government Bilingual High School Atiela and Alfred Dohbit Sama, Regional Councillor for the North West Regional Assembly, who doubles as the North West Regional Delegate of CAMPOST, were attacked by unidentified armed men.
Godwin Benyalla, the Mezam Boss, revealed was attacked near the Catholic Church in Mile 4 Nkwen, while Sama Alfred came under attack at Foncha Street Junction.
According to the SDO, the two officials resisted their attackers, who then opened fire and injured them in the legs before fleeing the scene.
The SDO further said both victims were evacuated to a hospital in Bamenda, where they are receiving medical treatment. Their condition has been described as stable and out of danger.
Simon Emile Mooh also used the circular to dismiss reports and rumours claiming that either of the two officials had died, describing such information as false.
The Mezam SDO condemned the attacks, saying they endanger the lives and physical safety of civilians and contribute to insecurity in the division.
He said state security and other competent services have been mobilized to identify and arrest those responsible for the attacks and bring them before the courts.
The Mezam SDO further called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with administrative authorities and defence and security forces to help maintain peace and social cohesion in Mezam Division.
It is worth reiterating that the statement comes four days after the two officials were shot on the same day, and both remain hospitalized in Bamenda.
