Atanga Nji Orders, Mooh Acts: Bamenda Bans Motorbike Passenger Overloading

The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, has banned commercial motorcycle riders from carrying more than one passenger at a time across the division. The move, signed on Wef Wednesday, October 7, 3026, aimed at strengthening security and public order.

The prefectural decision comes two days after a meeting between the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, and commercial motorcycle riders in Bamenda, during which the Minister announced a series of security measures for the city.

Among the measures, Atanga Nji instructed the Mezam SDO to issue a formal decision prohibiting commercial motorcycle riders from carrying more than one passenger at a time.

Simon Emile Mooh subsequently signed the prefectural order in Bamenda, giving effect to the measure across Mezam Division.

The order also prohibits motorcycle riders from using irregular or non-approved jackets, particularly those not authorized by the relevant municipal authorities.

The SDO said the measures are necessary in the interest of public order and security.

Under the new directive, any motorcycle rider who violates the restrictions will face sanctions in accordance with the laws and regulations in force.

Enforcement responsibility has been assigned to administrative and security authorities across the division.

Divisional Officers, Mayors of councils in Mezam, the Commander of the Mezam Gendarmerie Group, the Commissioner of the Central Police Station and the Central Commissioner of Special Branch have all been instructed to ensure strict implementation within their respective areas.

The order has also been communicated to the Governor of the North West Region, local administrative authorities, council officials and representatives of commercial motorcycle riders in Bamenda.

The latest measure places tighter restrictions on commercial motorcycle operations in Bamenda as authorities step up security measures in the Mezam Division.
