Dr. Ekandim Agbor Magdaline Tarkang, a peacebuilder and human rights advocate, has declared her support for Mr. Tambetiku following allegations accusing the human rights frontliner of having links with secessionist groups.
In a statement issued in Buea on Monday, October 19, 2026, Dr. Ekandim Agbor said she was concerned about the accusations against Tambetiku, whom she described as a longstanding advocate for the protection of vulnerable people and communities.
Drawing from her experience in peacebuilding in Cameroon's North West and South West regions, she said she had known Tambetiku over the years as an outspoken advocate who had remained committed to protecting people affected by the ongoing conflict.
She argued that peacebuilding requires communication with all parties involved in a conflict, including government security forces and non-state armed groups. Dr. Ekandim Agbor said engaging these actors was part of efforts to reduce tensions, protect civilians and prevent further violence.
“Dialogue is not complicity,” she stressed, describing communication as an important tool for saving lives and working towards lasting peace.
According to Dr. Ekandim Agbor, Tambetiku has used his engagements to help secure the release of people, protect vulnerable individuals and prevent harm to communities caught up in the conflict. She said his interventions over the years demonstrated his commitment to peace and the protection of human rights.
The peacebuilder called on the public to approach the allegations with caution rather than rush to condemn a person whose work, she maintained, had focused on protecting lives and promoting peace.
She further insisted that Tambetiku meant no harm and remained committed to efforts to restore peace and stability in the North West and South West regions.
Reaffirming her position, Dr. Tarkang declared her solidarity with the human rights advocate.
“I stand with him,” she said.
Dr. Ekandim Agbor Magdaline Tarkang is widely identified with peacebuilding and humanitarian advocacy. Known as The Hope Giver and Peacebuilder, she is the Vision Bearer and Coordinator of the Traditional Titled Women of Manyu and Chief Executive Officer of CHAMEG Cameroon.
Her statement highlights the distinction between engaging parties to a conflict as part of peacebuilding efforts and supporting their activities, while underscoring the importance of protecting human rights defenders working in conflict-affected communities.
