The Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, has ordered the compulsory identification of all commercial motorcycles operating in the division from November 1, 2026.

The measure is part of ongoing efforts to regulate the commercial motorcycle sector and strengthen security in Bamenda and across Mezam Division.

In a press release issued Thursday, October 8, 2026, Simon Emile Mooh said the education and sensitization phases of the exercise had been completed, paving the way for compulsory identification of motorcycles operating within the division.

The decision follows recommendations from a consultative meeting held on October 5 between Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji and representatives of motorcycle riders’ unions.

From November 1, 2026, every regular motorcycle rider will be required to have a motorcycle registration document and number plate, a valid driving licence and insurance certificate. Riders must also wear a jacket approved by the competent council.

The Mezam Boss said law enforcement officers will intensify controls from the November 1 deadline, insisting that any rider who fails to meet the requirements will be sanctioned in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

The SDO urged motorcycle riders to comply with the directive and cooperate with the authorities, stressing that the measures are intended to improve safety and security in the division.

The move comes as authorities step up efforts to bring the commercial motorcycle sector under closer control amid growing security concerns in Bamenda and other parts of Mezam.
