Nchofon Mingoh Honoured for Humanitarian Work in North West

Choves Loh Handing Award to Nchofon Mingoh

Nchofon Mingoh, North West Regional Coordinator of the Government Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan (EHAP), has been recognized by the Cameroon English Newspaper Publishers Association (CENPA) for his work supporting vulnerable and internally displaced persons affected by the crisis in the region.

The Assistant Divisional Officer for Bamenda I Subdivision received the recognition on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the EHAP centre at Upstation in Bamenda.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mingoh said the recognition was both an honour and a motivation to do more for people seeking assistance at the humanitarian centre.

He said his commitment to humanitarian work in the North West began from his first days in the region, after meeting people whose lives had been severely affected by the crisis.

“One of the first people who touched my heart was a young man who was well-to-do but lost everything because of the crisis,” Mingoh recalled.

The encounter, he said, strengthened his resolve to ensure that people visiting the centre are treated with dignity and leave with hope, even when they cannot immediately receive material assistance.

Nchofon Mingoh said the crisis has caused immense suffering among residents of the North West and that his work goes beyond the distribution of assistance to include psychosocial support for those affected.

“I have dedicated my life to continue serving humanity and putting a smile on the faces of those who come here seeking assistance,” he said.

‘This award motivates me to do more’

Mingoh said the CENPA recognition is the fifth award he has received for his humanitarian work in the North West. According to him, each recognition serves as a reminder that more needs to be done. “Each time I receive an award like this, it motivates me, gives me more energy and is like a wake-up call to do better than what I have been doing,” he said.

CENPA Recognition

He described the latest recognition as proof that his efforts are being noticed and challenged himself to raise his level of commitment. “If I am working at level five, I should take it to level seven,” he said.

He also used the occasion to highlight the reach of the government’s humanitarian programme, saying the EHAP centre has assisted more than 250,000 vulnerable people in the North West.

Cross Section of Beneficiaries in One of the Distributions

He said the centre continues to register internally displaced persons and other crisis-affected people as the humanitarian situation remains a concern in parts of the region.

Call for fair access to humanitarian aid

While urging those in need to continue seeking assistance, Nchofon Mingoh appealed to beneficiaries to allow others to benefit from the program. He said the assistance is intended primarily for people whose lives and livelihoods have been affected by the crisis.

According to him, some people who have already benefited continue returning for assistance, potentially denying those who have not yet received support the opportunity to benefit.

He therefore called on previous beneficiaries to give others a chance. “When you benefit once, you should not come again. Give the next chance or opportunity to those who have not benefited,” he said.

Mingoh explained that fair distribution would allow the available assistance to reach more vulnerable people across the region.

CENPA praises humanitarian commitment

Choves Loh, a member of CENPA, after handing the award in Bamenda a few days after the main event in Douala, said the association chose to recognize Nchofon Mingoh for his role in managing relief assistance for vulnerable and internally displaced people in the North West.

CENPA brings together about 43 English-language newspaper publishers in Cameroon and uses its awards to recognize individuals who make notable contributions to national development and public service.

Choves Loh said Mingoh was selected during the 2026 CENPA Awards for his commitment to relief aid management as an administrator of the government humanitarian program.

“On behalf of CENPA, we are congratulating him and encouraging him to continue to be at the service of the nation,” Loh said.

He urged Mingoh to build on his achievements and continue working to ensure that vulnerable populations are not left behind. “We expect him to redouble his efforts and continue to offer greater service to the nation,” Loh added.
