Former students of Presbyterian High School (PHS) Bisongabang are putting final arrangements in place for the institution’s 60th anniversary, with renewed calls for alumni to support the school’s development and restoration.

To take place under the distinguished patronage of President Paul Biya, the Presbyterian High School Bisongabang Ex-Students Association (BEXSANS) reached key decisions during its final planning meeting in Buea, where members adopted a budget and reviewed preparations for the Diamond Jubilee scheduled for November 4 to 7, 2026.

The celebration will be held under the theme, “Our Alma Mater, Our Legacy, Our Responsibility,” reflecting the association’s commitment to honouring the school’s history while taking greater responsibility for its future.

The anniversary activities will take place at the Njecam Hills PHS Bisongabang campus in Manyu Division, South West Region. National Treasurer Agbor Egbe Christy said the decision to return to the school was deliberate, as the campus remains a place of lasting memories for generations of former students.

She explained that celebrating the milestone at the institution would allow alumni to reconnect with their roots and reflect on the role the school played in shaping their lives.

According to BEXSANS National President Enow Agbor Daniel, preparations started on August 8, 2026, when the association held its first major executive meeting to begin mobilizing members and organizing the anniversary.

At that meeting, committees were established to coordinate the event, with Professor Etchu George appointed chairperson of the steering committee and Professor Ekandim Magdalene Takang named first vice-chairperson.

The committees have since worked on the program, logistics and budget ahead of the four-day celebration. Activities will include traditional dance competitions, football and handball matches involving former students, current students and school staff. The program is expected to combine entertainment with opportunities for alumni to reconnect and discuss the institution’s future.

Beyond celebrating six decades of educational achievement, BEXSANS is using the anniversary to encourage former students to contribute more actively to the development of their alma mater.

Nkongho James Agbor, president of the association’s Buea branch, called on alumni to recognize their responsibility towards the school, particularly as educational institutions in parts of the region continue to face challenges linked to the ongoing crisis.

He encouraged former students to support efforts to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure and restore facilities needed to improve learning conditions. Agbor also urged current students to value their connection to PHS Bisongabang, describing the school as an institution whose legacy deserves collective protection.

For National President Enow Agbor Daniel, the anniversary is an opportunity to move beyond celebration and strengthen the association’s contribution to the school. He recalled that BEXSANS was founded 34 years ago and said the association had continued to work towards supporting the institution, although more remained to be done.

Daniel appealed to former students of other schools to organize themselves and contribute to the development of the institutions that educated them. He stressed that the education and moral values acquired at school had helped shape the lives of many alumni, making it important for them to give back and ensure that future generations benefit from the same opportunities.

The adoption of the final budget marks another step towards the anniversary, a development welcomed by Professor Ekandim Agbor Magdalene, first vice-chairperson of the steering committee.

For PHS Bisongabang, the Diamond Jubilee is an opportunity to reflect on 60 years of educational service, celebrate the achievements of its former students and renew efforts to preserve the institution.

With the theme placing emphasis on legacy and responsibility, BEXSANS hopes the anniversary will strengthen solidarity among alumni and translate their shared memories into practical support for the school.

As former students prepare to return to the campus where their journeys began, the central message is that celebrating the past must go hand in hand with investing in the institution’s future.
