Bamenda III Council Passes 2025 Budget, Seeks Land Dispute Resolution

The Bamenda III Council convened at the Council Hall on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, to deliberate and finalize the 2025 initial budget. Among the attendees were the
Divisional Officer for Bamenda III Sub Division, the personal representative of the SDO for Mezam, law enforcement officials, and development partners.
   After extensive discussions, the Council approved a budget balance of 784,794,904 FCFA. Revenue streams include discharge tax, equalized taxes from FEICOM, income
from Council lands, services, and investment grants from the state and other partners. 
   This budget allocation prioritizes:
- Infrastructure Development: Road construction, water system expansion, and
pipeline maintenance.
- Community Development: Establishment of green spaces, hosting of agricultural
shows, youth employment initiatives, and sports contributions.
- Administrative Costs: Salaries and social insurance payments.
During the session, the Council expressed deep concern over the tragic death of Ngam Augustin, a community leader. His untimely demise stemmed from a longstanding land dispute between the Nkwen and Bamendakwe communities.

Council members urged the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam to mediate a lasting resolution and highlighted the health risks posed by the Mbelewa waste dump.
   Immediate waste disposal improvements were proposed, alongside long-term strategies for waste management.
   Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe assured Council members of the administration's dedication to addressing community issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders following the adoption of a budget exceeding 700 million FCFA.
