The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Boyo, Menyong Gilbert Sunday, has expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout of pupils, students, and teachers as schools across the division resumed for the 2025/2026 academic year.

During a tour of institutions in Fundong subdivision chief town of Boyo Division on Monday, September 9, 2025, the senior administrator described the resumption as “very encouraging,” noting the presence of both learners and teaching staff despite lingering challenges.

According to official statistics, 4,437 pupils reported to nursery and primary schools, while 1,251 students turned out in secondary schools across Boyo on the first day. Menyong said the figures reflect the determination of parents and children to prioritize education.

“Our sensitization was not in vain. Parents, more than ever before, are determined to send their children to school, and the children have equally decided to take their destinies into their hands,” he said.

While commending the encouraging statistics, Menyong Gilbert urged students and staff to maintain discipline and avoid absenteeism, warning that sanctions will be applied in cases of negligence.

“We are doing everything it takes to accompany school authorities and the education community in this journey. Whosoever is not going to be assiduous knows the consequences,” he cautioned.

For many students, the day was marked by optimism. Gam Smith, a Form 5 student at GBHS Fundong, said he was excited to return, especially as he prepares for his GCE exams. “I am going to make sure I study hard so that I can pass,” he told reporters.

Similarly, Sylvia Nain, a Form 3 student at GTHS Fundong, highlighted her determination despite ongoing calls for ghost towns in the region. “I love education and am ready to learn. I want to encourage other students who are still at home to join us. Delay is very dangerous,” she said.

Teachers and school administrators also praised the SDO’s initiative, noting that such visits boost morale and reinforce the value of education in a context where security and socio-economic concerns have disrupted learning in recent years.

As the new school year begins, local authorities have called for collective responsibility, discipline, and commitment to ensure that classrooms remain open and learning continues unhindered across Boyo Division.
