The Fundong Council has charted a new development path for the year 2026. This was after voting a budget of 902,688,500 FCFA, a figure that places the municipality on a renewed trajectory of growth.
The budget slightly higher than last year’s 880,745,200 FCFA, was adopted during an intense and highly attended session at the Fundong Council Chambers on November 29, 2025.
Mayor Denis Awoh Ndang, presiding over the deliberations, explained that the nearly 30 million FCFA increase reflects the council’s intention to sharpen its priorities and upgrade service delivery within the municipality.
The session was superMenyong Gilbert Sunday, vised by the Senior Divisional Officerrt Sunday, who was present for his first budgetary session in the subdivision.
Mayor Ndang pointed out that 2026 will be the first full year in which Fundong experiences the impact of the programme budget approach, an accountability-driven system that requires councils to tie expenditures directly to measurable outcomes. According to him, this method, introduced in 2025, is expected to improve project planning and provide a clearer picture of the council’s long-term development roadmap.
Further explaining that a large portion of the budget has been dedicated to improving council operations, sanitation, and community investment.
While salaries to the local development agent, remain a statutory obligation, the council has significantly strengthened its environmental sanitation commitments in hopes of boosting Fundong’s performance in regional clean city competitions.
Mayor Awoh Ndang reiterated that the investment expenditures, which include infrastructure and community projects, will be finalized once national budget discussions are concluded in Yaoundé.
Looking back at 2025, the Mayor described the year as one of resilience and recovery for the municipality. Thanks to a relative improvement in the security climate and consistent support from defence and security forces, he said, Fundong Council managed to execute more than 80 percent of its planned investment projects.
Among the standout achievements were the completion of the Fundong Amusement Park and the Municipal Rest House, two facilities expected to energize tourism and provide new recreational and hospitality options for residents and visitors alike.
The Mayor also used the occasion to reaffirm the council’s longstanding dedication to social inclusion. He stressed that development is meaningful only when it embraces all segments of society, including persons living with disabilities.
The council, he said, will continue expanding programs and accessibility measures aimed at ensuring equal participation in community life.
Security remained another major theme of the session. While acknowledging the progress made, Mayor Ndang reminded residents that peace requires collective vigilance. He encouraged communities to maintain strong ties with local authorities and to promptly report suspicious activity.
“We all share responsibility for keeping our municipality safe,” he cautioned.
The Senior Divisional Officer, in his concluding remarks, congratulated the council for its prudent financial planning and urged the administration to remain transparent throughout the execution phase.
Menyong Gilbert Sunday further encouraged the population to stay engaged in local development, noting that citizen involvement is vital for ensuring the budget delivers real impact.
The session wrapped up with calls for renewed collaboration among stakeholders as Fundong municipality prepares for another year of ambitious undertakings.
Mayor Ndang extended holiday wishes to all present, expressing hope that 2026 will unfold with peace, progress, and effective implementation of the newly adopted budget.
