Shalom Higher Education Institute has reaffirmed its growing reputation as a centre of excellence in professional and moral formation during its 2025 graduation ceremony held on December 6, 2025, in Bamenda.
The event, attended by dignitaries, faculty, parents, and 33 of proud graduates, highlighted both the academic accomplishments of the Class of 2025 and the institution’s significant progress toward becoming one of Cameroon’s leading higher education establishments.
A Celebration of Achievement and New Beginnings
Delivering the keynote address, the Director of Shalom Higher Education Institute, Dr. Shei Claude Nfor, described the graduation not as an ending, but as the beginning of greater journeys. Citing Nelson Mandela’s famous words that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” he emphasized that the graduates now possess that “weapon” and the responsibility that comes with it.
Dr. Nfor praised the graduates for showing exceptional resilience and determination throughout their years of study. Their achievements, he noted, were shaped by intensive academic coursework, demanding clinical practice, relentless study schedules, and the personal challenges that accompany higher learning. He described their success as evidence of their discipline and readiness to serve society, echoing Malcolm X’s assertion that “education is the passport to the future.”
Shalom’s Strengthening Identity as a Premier Institution
In his reflections on the institution’s growth, Dr. Nfor highlighted Shalom’s commitment to maintaining rigorous academic standards across its programs in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Management, and Education. These programs, he said, are designed not only to impart knowledge but to build competency, ethical judgment, and real-world readiness.
He underscored the invaluable contribution of the faculty, whom he described as scholars, practitioners, and role models dedicated to the holistic development of their students. Their mentorship, he said, has shaped graduates who are not only skilled but morally grounded and professionally poised.
Dr. Nfor also spoke of Shalom’s expanding partnerships, particularly with Kesmonds International University, a collaboration that has enriched academic exchange, broadened research opportunities, and strengthened the school’s international profile.
He acknowledged the institution’s engagement with hospitals, laboratories, NGOs, and private organizations as part of its commitment to integrating academic knowledge with practical experience.
Central to Shalom’s identity, he stressed, is its culture of discipline, humility, professionalism, and integrity, values that continue to define and distinguish its students and graduates.
A Vision for the Future
The Director outlined an ambitious vision for Shalom’s continued transformation, noting ongoing investments in modern infrastructure, digital learning platforms, and advanced laboratories. These developments, he said, are part of a larger mission to elevate Shalom into a leading university for health sciences and professional education in Cameroon.
Drawing on Mark Twain’s wisdom that “the secret of getting ahead is getting started,” Dr. Nfor affirmed that Shalom has already begun its ascent toward national prominence and is committed to becoming one of the country’s most respected institutions.
The Student Perspective: A Journey of Growth and Transformation
The voice of the graduating class was represented by Ingoh Margaret Takum, who delivered a heartfelt and reflective speech on behalf of her peers. She described the emotional and transformative journey that defined their years at Shalom from the uncertainties that marked their first days on campus to the confidence, discipline, and sense of responsibility they carry today.
Ingoh paid tribute to the lecturers who pushed students beyond their comfort zones, administrators who guided them with patience, and classmates who became family along the way. She emphasized that Shalom had shaped them intellectually, professionally, morally, and spiritually.
Her speech included a touching appreciation for parents and guardians whose sacrifices, love, and prayers made the day possible. She also thanked faculty and administrative staff for their unwavering belief in the students, even at moments when they doubted themselves.
Ingoh encouraged fellow graduates to step boldly into the world, reminding them that the values of excellence, integrity, service, and peace instilled at Shalom must guide their future paths. She called on them to dream big, work hard, and remain resilient in the face of uncertainty.
A Call to Service, Leadership, and Lifelong Learning
Graduates were challenged to become change-makers, community builders, and ambassadors of the values nurtured at Shalom Higher Education Institute. Quoting John Dewey’s reflection that “education is not preparation for life; education is life itself,” Dr. Nfor urged the graduates to continue learning, continue serving, and continue striving for excellence. He concluded with the words of Albert Einstein, reminding them that education is ultimately “the training of the mind to think.”
A Day of Gratitude and Optimism
It is worth mentioning that 33 students graduated in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Dentistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Metal Construction with Vocational Diplomas, HNDs, and Bachelor's degrees.
The ceremony also recognized the dedication of the teaching and administrative staff, the sacrifices of parents and guardians, and the support of institutional partners such as Kesmonds International University. Together, as Dr. Nfor noted, these groups have helped build a vibrant and supportive academic community.
