The Tubah Council has approved its first-ever three-year program budget, marking a turning point in local governance and development planning. The 2026–2028 budget cycle was adopted during the Council’s Budgetary Session held at the Tubah Council Hall, in the presence of councillors, traditional authorities, administrative officials and media representatives.

The session was chaired by the Mayor, Tanjong Martin Meshongong, Knight of the Cameroon National Order of Valour, who described the move to a program budget as “unique” and “historic” for the municipality.

A Budget Jump Fueled by Major Development Funding

Presenting the draft budget, Mayor Tanjong announced a total allocation of 6,979,981,332 FCFA, a significant rise from the 811,311,396 FCFA budgeted in 2025, representing an increase of 20.3% for the 2026 financial year. According to him, the three-year program is structured as follows, 2026, 3,979,981,332 FCFA, 2027, 2,250,000,000 FCFA, and 2028, 250,000,000 FCFA.

The mayor attributed the drastic rise to major upcoming investments, such as the Austrian soft loans exceeding 5 billion FCFA, earmarked for a multipurpose shopping mall in Bambui, integrated health centers across Tubah, and a modern municipal market.

FEICOM support amounts to over 600 million FCFA for the construction of low-cost housing, and road fund contributions of more than 70 million FCFA for the rehabilitation of municipal roads.

“With this three-year plan, we are embarking on a results-oriented journey,” Tanjong declared. “These funds will transform our municipality and improve the lives of our people.”

Acknowledgment of Political Support and a Call for Unity

Mayor Tanjong used the session to thank the population for what he described as a “massive vote” for CPDM presidential and regional council candidates. He also addressed political tensions, including allegations that some councillors campaigned against him in previous elections.

“Let us contribute to the success of our council’s activities instead of indulging in armchair criticism and blasphemy,” he urged. “The recent CPDM victory is testimony to the loyalty of both our councillors and population.”

Achievements and Assessment of 2020–2025 Mandate

Reflecting on the outgoing mandate, the mayor highlighted over 86 completed projects in infrastructure, roads, digitalization, agriculture, education, health and tourism.

One notable achievement is the now-functional Tubah Council mortuary, which has handled 33 corpses and generated 1,833,000 FCFA in revenue.
“Time will pass and we too will pass away, but Tubah will remain,” the mayor stated. “We must fix it, develop it and leave a legacy.”

Mayor Reveals Details of 18.5 Billion FCFA Australian Partnership

Speaking to journalists after the session, Mayor Tanjong revealed additional details about a major 18.5 billion FCFA soft loan project negotiated with the Australian government. He explained that the package encompasses four flagship developments, a Technical Center, one of only three in Cameroon, a modern shopping mall, with the condition that feeder markets in all surrounding villages be upgraded or constructed and an ultramodern hospital plus four feeder hospitals, to be constructed or rehabilitated.

The mayor emphasized that inserting these projects into the program budget was necessary to avoid operational delays. “When you don’t budget, you cannot spend. This projection ensures we do not run into difficulties once the projects take off.”
He also celebrated the councillors' enthusiasm, noting their confidence in the visible achievements of the council.

DO Announces Possible Territorial Reorganization

In one of the session’s most notable interventions, Massango Metougue Narcisse, Divisional Officer (DO) for Tubah Subdivision, addressed councillors with breaking news regarding potential administrative restructuring.

The SDO's representative revealed that the Minister of Territorial Administration had instructed governors to conduct feasibility studies for possible expansion or subdivision of territorial units, and Tubah may be among those considered.

“The people of Tubah may be glad to see a new administrative baby,” he stated. “We are gathering indicators and will submit proposals within 48 hours. Contributions from councillors and local leaders are welcome.”

Security Appeal Ahead of Year-End Festivities

The DO also used the avenue to underscore the importance of peace and security, particularly during festive periods. He urged councillors and traditional rulers to sensitize communities on safety, discipline and vigilance.

“Security is essential for the realization of the lofty projects unveiled today,” he insisted. “If a project is planned for three years and does not start in the first year, the remaining years may face doom.”

He further congratulated His Majesty Fon Viyuoh Nelson Sheteh of Kedjom Ketinguh for his election to the North West House of Chiefs, noting Tubah’s tradition of strong regional representation.

The session concluded with the Website Media Group presenting dual recognitions to the Mayor and the Divisional Officer for their relentless efforts to promote peace and development in the municipality.
